A Special Tea Recognizing Women and Democracy in Honor of Alice Paul

Alice Paul was an American suffragist, feminist, women's rights activist, and main leader and strategist of the campaign for the 19th Amendment (ratified 1920) that secured the right to vote for women. In 1921, Paul coauthored the Equal Rights Amendment (never ratified) and campaigned for its passage for the next half century (until her death in 1977). She played a major role in adding protections for women in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. From the 1940s to 1970s, Alice Paul lived in the Ridgefield home in which our event will be held.
