In caucus Tuesday evening, May 17, 2016, Democrats in Ridgefield nominated Ridgefield resident Joe Dowdell as their candidate in the November election for the 111th District seat in the Connecticut House of Representatives.
An Electrical Engineer working in the high voltage industry, Mr. Dowdell has special interest and expertise in issues surrounding renewable energy, and modernizing and upgrading the power grid. Mr. Dowdell is passionate about enhancing voting rights and improving ease of registration and voting, especially in regard to absentee voting and expanded voting hours. A five year resident of Connecticut, Joe is deeply concerned about the local/regional economy and pocketbook issues that most directly affect residents of Ridgefield and surrounding communities.
Joe Dowdell grew up in Minnesota, where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Electrical Engineering. While in school, Joe was member of a team that won first prize in the engineering category of the Solar Decathlon for designing an energy-efficient house. In the political sphere, Joe is a volunteer with the Bernie Sanders campaign, and was elected to the Ridgefield Democratic Town Committee in 2016.
The 111th District of the Connecticut House of Representatives is contained wholly within the town of Ridgefield and covers most of the town (a portion of the town adjacent to Danbury falls outside of the 111th). The seat has been held by John H. Frey since 1998.
